Our Location - U3A Croydon - Victoria Australia.

Map of Australia.

Croydon is an outer suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and forms part of the City of Maroondah which was created in December 1994 when the former cities of Ringwood and Croydon joined together with small amounts of North Ringwood, Lilydale and Kilsyth South. It is located 25 kilometres to the east of metropolitan Melbourne and occupies an area of 61.4 square kilometres. The existing population is more than 100,000.

With beautiful views of the Dandenong Ranges, one of the outstanding features of our area is its green, leafy character. In fact, Maroondah is named after an aboriginal word meaning "leaf". Our first settlers were the Aboriginal Wurrundjeri people, and the first white settlers arrived in the 1830's. There are many areas of outstanding natural beauty, and they are homes to many rare species of native flora and fauna.

There are thriving retail centres together with a wealth of sport, health and recreational facilities that make our municipality an exciting place in which to live, work and relax.

Croydon has a balance of established and ageing neighbourhoods clustered around the main transport routes in the centre, with newly developed areas on the periphery. It offers residents a glimpse of a natural wonderland often found within their own backyard.
There is significant commercial and industrial sectors which are important for the economy of the region. There are a number of schools and higher educational facilities in the area.

The region offers a wide range of community and support services made up of individuals, volunteers and strengthened by a large network of groups of which the University of the Third Age plays a significant part. This contributes to a caring community with a strong sense of goodwill.

RESOURCES AND VENUES OF U3A CROYDON INC.

Our most important resources are our dedicated Leaders and the Committee who volunteer many hours of their time making sure that our members have a variety of interesting classes and activities to attend. Several leaders have also kindly made their homes available for small groups. We are very grateful for the following venues and extend our thanks to the Management Committees.

MAROONDAH CITY COUNCIL - KEYSTONE HALL COMPLEX - GLENN FROST ROOM

The Council is very supportive of the Croydon U3A. They have provided us with an office and a room for classes for our own use at the Keystone Hall Complex, at a very reasonable rent. Also the Glenn Frost Room of the Croydon Library for several classes.

KENT AVENUE AND BIRDWOOD ROAD SCOUT HALLS

We are very grateful to both Scout Groups for sharing their buildings with us Many of our classes, activities and meetings are held there.

These venues are very important for our classes and our end-of-year Break-up.
